“All Summer in a Day” The setting creates conflict by only one of the kids had seen the 7 year event and no one else except the parents/ teachers believed her wich made the other kids harder on Margot wich got her into some trouble when the kids decided to lock her in a room so she couldn't see the event. “"All a joke!" said the boy, and seized her roughly. "Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes!" "No," said Margot, falling back.
‘I did’ ‘William!’ said the teacher.” The children are jealous of Margot since she saw the sun and they didn’t. Their “solution” to their problem was to ignore whatever she had to say and to bully her. Since the children are jealous of Margot they portray such bad attributes towards Margot.
Ray Bradbury and Richard Connell create the tones of jealousy and mystery to motivate their characters. In “All Summer in a Day,” Margot tells her classmates she has seen the sun and her friends become instantly jealous. Connell, in his story, indicates how Rainsford is determined to find civilization on a deserted island. They both have different concepts but overcome the same meaning. One of the students’ names is Margot. She moved from Earth to Venus, wheres all the other children have lived on Venus their entire lives.
In “All Summer in a Day,” the children are thriving to see the sun, they would even be happy to just remember what the sun looks and feels like against their snowflake white skin. Margot, on the other hand does remember the sun and often talks about the bright light bulb that lights their planet once every seven years, to the others. However, there is a turning point when the children become jealous and treat Margot differently because to them she is set apart from them. " Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes ! "
She would always describe to the other kids even though she knows they won’t believe her. She would describe the Sun as a penny, a stove on fire, and even, “The sun is a flower, that blooms for just one hour”(Bradbury,p.g2). She shouldn’t have kept on talking about the Sun because it makes the other children feel envious. This is so significant, because Margot knows that what she says about the Sun is mortifying to the other children because they don’t remember how the Sun looks like.

An example of this is displayed when the students take out their anger on Margot, as she had seen the glorious sun many times while they haven’t even once. This is shown when the students say, “Hey, everyone, let’s put her in a closet before the teacher comes!” (“All Summer In A Day”, 3). This quote is in reference to when Margot is describing the sun to the students.

Both the original short story and the performed versions of “All Summer in a Day” tell the story of how Margot’s life was on Venus. While the stories are similar, each medium uses unique techniques to engage the audience. In the original text, Ray Bradbury uses an interesting conflict, descriptive language, and dialogue to tell the story and develop a disheartening mood.
In life we can all relate to the feeling of longing for something. In All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury’s characters’ lives are clouded with rain and the only see the sun once every seven years. Bradbury uses metaphors, emotions, and repetition to express the sun’s meaning of hope to the main character, Margot, and the children of rocket men and women on Venus. Metaphors and emotions are used to help the reader relate to the connection with the sun. He describes the sun and the rain using metaphors, and uses the children’s emotions to help further the idea.
