Netflix has single-handedly been responsible for bringing the culture of Binge-watching and they want to throw a spanner in your weekend plans! The streaming service is set to double its original programming content in 2016. If you thought you barely had time to breathe as you binge-watched through Netflix this year, you are in for a lot more!

Netflix's chief content officer Ted Sarandos, while speaking at UBS Media Conference (via Verge) announced that the streaming service is set to release 31 scripted shows in 2016 which include new season of existing series, compared to barely 16 in 2016. In addition to these, 10 feature films, 10 stand-up specials, 12 documentaries as well as 30 children's show are also coming on the service in 2016. …show more content…

It continued to add further more shows the next year but they still remained in single digit, a barrier they breached this year.

New seasons of existing will account for a big chunk of Netflix's programming slate of 2016, with House Of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Master of None and Sense8 already having renewals for new seasons. New shows debuting in 2016 include Peter Morgan's The Crown, Judd Apatow's Love, Baz Luhrmann and Shawn Ryan's The Get Down, The Full House reboot, Untitled Winona Ryder Project, Flaked and Marvel's Luke Cage.

Netflix has had to increasingly focus its resources on original content in recent years as they push to provide content that are only available on Netflix, as Sarandos noted in a blog post earlier. And this push has made it more difficult for the company to clinch deals for licensed programming. Studios and networks are extremely vary of selling their content to the streaming service as it would indirectly encourage Netflix's popularity at the expense of traditional television viewership.
