Have you ever thought about being immortal and being in a world where death has nearly been completely conquered? Scythe is a science fiction novel written by Neal Shusterman. Scythe is a novel where the world has conquered death and everyone is immortal. Because they conquered death, scythes have been created to glean people so the population doesn’t grow too much and over-populates the world. Scythe has many big and important events throughout the novel. One of the big events in Scythe is the Vernal Conclave. I think that in this part of the book the author wanted to throw a twist in the story, at the Vernal Conclave by making friends with competitors for scythehood. Another big event that happened in Scythe is at the Tonist cult. In my opinion, this part of the book is the most interesting. In this event, one of the biggest characters in the book, Scythe Goddard and his Junior Scythes Chomsky, Rand, and Volta all pass away in this part. On pages 392 and 393 Rowan kills Goddard, Chomsky, Rand and says he has become what they wanted him to become, and he’s also angry because they have brought Scythe Volta to glean himself and he takes all of his anger out on Goddard and his disciples. And after he kills the scythes, Rowan takes Goddard’s robe and ring and burns the whole building to the ground with the scythes in it so they can’t ever be revived. I think this part of the novel brings action and shows characteristics and how Rowan is independent and has anger built up inside. This is the biggest plot twist in the book to me personally and this one event can cause many different outcomes.
