Whenever a person does something bad, they try to cover it up. Murderers are especially good at covering their tracks. It takes the most elite detectives to find them and hold them accountable. The name Hercule Poirot is synonymous when people talk about perceptive and secretive people, this is because Agatha Christie does a spectacular job of making him a shrewd detective whose ‘little gray cells’ always produce results, especially in the intricate and seemingly unsolvable mystery in “Peril at End House”.

For a while Poirot perceived that there was another answer to his questions. He had a sixth sense that something was off. This is revealed at the end when he was explaining the case. “‘I criticized her statements. Instead of believing them, I said, ‘Suppose this were not true’’” (Page 246). Nick Buckley was the one who everyone thought was the victim, but Poirot instead looked at the case more closely. By doing so, he was able to spot problems in the evidence and the truth dawned upon him. Instead of looking just at the facts as they were presented to him, he went deeper thought outside of the box. In order to catch the criminal, he had to fake a death, and despite Hastings’ persistence in reassuring the Commander about Nick, Poirot knew that the easiest way to keep a secret is to not tell anyone. "'You've got to take him [Commander Challenger] in on the secret'. Poirot shook his head. 'No mon ami, I do not make the exceptions'”. In order for everything to finally be revealed, the death had to be staged, so certain things could come to the light. Poirot revelled in this act, and no one knew that the girl was actually alive. This was the smartest thing to do, because although Poirot had intelligently figured out who played what part in this mystery, it would be very hard to convince everyone
