Pierre Elliott Trudeau, elected in 1968 as Prime Minister of Canada, was a democratic leader. This is evident as he promoted citizen involvement within the government and much of his work revolved around giving freedoms and power to the people of Canada. An example of this is “The Charter of Rights and Freedoms” a bill of rights Trudeau passed in 1982, which outlines the rights and freedoms necessary for a democratic country to thrive. Furthermore, as leader of Canada, a multi-party country, Trudeau had to work with other political parties to accomplish his goals and pass legislation.

Examples of this include decriminalizing homosexual acts, attempting to heal relations with first nation people, and passing “The Charter of Rights and Freedoms”.
Inspiring- Few leaders can compare to Trudeau when it comes to being inspiring. He was one of the most powerful speakers this country had ever seen and had countless fans as a result; this phenomenon was even dubbed “Trudeaumania”. In addition, he was voted Canada’s most inspirational figure in a recent online poll.
Forward-Looking- Trudeau was notoriously against Quebec Nationalism and had a goal of maintaining Canadian Federalism. He knew he wanted to make sure Quebec stayed a part of Canada and he had a plan to make sure that French and English were considered equal in Canada. His plan, included giving Quebec a voice in Canadian politics so the country could work to achieve his goals.
Broad-Minded- Trudeau included Canadian multiculturalism in his official policy in 1971. He said in a speech immediately after updating his policy to include how much he valued diversity that “A society which emphasizes uniformity is one which creates intolerance and
