One of, if not the most important factor in the downfall of Romeo and Juliet was the extremely limited time that Romeo and Juliet gave themselves. Time played a crucial part in this entire story because it acted as an entire character that was always against the protagonists and caused their downfall. As soon as they met at the party, they decided to get married within hours of knowing each other. They didn’t plan anything out with each other they decided they wanted to spend the rest of their life with this random person they met at a party. If Romeo and Juliet had slowed down for a second, planned things out, talked with each other, and got to know the other person, then the relationship could have worked. The two characters immediately fall “in love” with each other after seeing each other just once. Then they decide to get married right after, but they are too immature to know what love is. One of the reasons that Romeo and Juliet are not in love is that they fell in love right after they met. This is because Romeo just got over Rosaline rejecting him, and he uses Juliet as a sort of rebound for that rejection. “Out of her favor, where I am in love.” (I.I.163) In this part of the story Romeo is going on and on about how much he loves Rosaline, but she does not love him back. Later, he sees Juliet at the Capulet party and just falls “in love” with her. Romeo says “Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight, For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.” (I.V.50) upon seeing Juliet at the party, he’s saying that he has never seen a girl as beautiful as Juliet, but Romeo also says “That when she dies, with beauty dies her store.” (I.I.211) when he is talking about Rosaline to Benvolio. Romeo makes it unclear as to which of the two females is more beautiful and which of the two Romeo loves. Romeo is using Juliet to try and forget about Rosaline who rejected her, because just like Juliet, Rosaline is also a beautiful
