Looking from the start of "A Christmas Carol", which I will call from now on "the book", Scrooge is described in the worst way a human could be described. Dickens' fantastic descriptions drew an image of a sharp, misanthropic, covetous old miser. His greed for wealth and his superb selfishness made him stand out like a goose in a queue of ducks compared to the charity men's benevolence and his comely nephew's good heart. as "the book" describes, Scrooge is a "tightfisted hand at the grindstone...hard and sharp as flint, solitary as an oyster. "(page 12), highlighting his selfishness and hostility.
Scrooge was also a rude and mean person, who hated Christmas. He was a bad person but when he changed he did not change as much as the Grinch. Scrooge is a rich mean old man, who was given a chance to change, be his nephew inviting him to a Christmas party, or people going around asking for money to donate, but he never did any of that. While the Grinch didn't have an opportunity to change when everyone hated him, and even when he was invited to something, and started to change, they played sick jokes on him. Scrooge could have changed but he didn't, the Grinch only had one chance to change, and he took it.
We come to learn that Scrooge changes with his attitude. One quote from the text that accurately confirms this is…“No warmth could warm, no wintry weather could chill him. ”(page 3). This excerpt from the text explains how troubled and insecure he is inside, using a metaphorical perspective. We, as the readers, can draw inferences and conclusions on how loathsome he seems.

In the story “A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens, the main character is Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is a heartless old man, who cares about nothing but himself and money. He is the definition of materialistic.
Throughout A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, Scrooge is a vile and selfish character. He distrusts the poor and despises Christmas with all of his heart. Until The Ghost of Christmas Past appears to him. The Ghost of Christmas Past begins to expose Scrooge's true selfishness and insistence on keeping everything for himself as he undergoes his metamorphosis. After the change, Scrooge wants to live a better life.
Scrooge in "The Christmas Carol" shows how much he hates Christmas, and everyone he works with to change to a happy person with the help of others. Scrooge emphasizes, "What a fine day fellow... An Intelligent boy, a remarkable boy. " This is a critical part of this novel because this shows Scrooge overcame his dislike of Christmas and his entire disliking of people. Instead of rudely gesturing to people, he is now starting to act nicer, and more mature.

They each take him to show him his wrong doings, and Scrooge sees his past, present, and future Christmases. He was warned to change his actions to make his future brighter, and a better afterlife. During his time with the spirits, he learned to be a better man and respect the world he lives in.
After Marley warns him not to end up like himself, and informs him that he will be visited by three ghosts, the first ghost arrives in Scrooge’s home. This is the the Ghost of Christmas Past. The spirit is dressed in a bright white tunic and is holding branch of luscious green holly. The ghost shows him scenes from when he was younger. These scenes make a massive impact on Scrooge.
When Scrooge sees the Ghost, he is scared by its frightening appearance, but he knows that the Spirit’s lessons are important. He says, “ ‘But as I know your purpose is to do me good, and as I hope to live to be another man from what I was, I am prepared to bear you company, and do it with a thankful heart’ ” (Dickens 2). In this point of the story, Scrooge wants to change and is ready learn how to change his ways. He realizes that the Ghosts’ lessons are vital if he wants to change.
One night, in a dream, he is warned by his deceased friend, Marley, that three spirits would come to him. The first spirit is the spirit of Christmas past, and it shows him an event from his past. In the event, Scrooge is seen leaving his lover because she is too poor. Scrooge regrets this decision greatly. The next spirit tells him about the present, and it shows him how his employee, Bob Cratchit, is suffering.
Ebenezer Scrooge is a bitter old miser, and miserable, Scrooge dislikes things like happiness, generosity, and Christmas, until three of Ghosts shows him the error of his ways. Scrooge keeps his office very cold, the person that works for him has a little fire going and has multiply jackets to keep him warm. Scrooge at the beginning was described as cold man with no facial expressions who shared little and hung onto every cent. He kept to himself, had no friends, and attended no social events.
