A father: someone whom you shall look up to, someone whom you never forget, someone who should help you find your direction in this crazy world. Three of the novels that we have read have shown a role model, these novels are: To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, and Farewell to Manzanar. These books all include a role model or father who has made a big impact on another character and influenced them either positively or negatively.
The novel To Kill a Mockingbird illustrates that a father is a strong necessity to help his children on their path through life and would do anything to help them. When Scout’s teacher, Miss Caroline, punishes her, it is Atticus who reads with Scout and understands her level of knowledge. This proves that Atticus truly understands his child and that he helps her through her hardest times. Atticus doesn’t let his children fall into the unjustified racism in Maycomb and teaches them with the case he is working on. The case shows that a man of color was wrongfully blamed and should not be treated differently because of the color of his skin. Atticus allows his children to be themselves and teaches them how to grow up with their moral ways. …show more content…

“He kept pursuing oblivion through drink, he kept abusing Mama, and there seemed to be no way out of it for anyone. You couldn't even run,” Jeanne states. Papa wasn't the best father to all of his children, he was a largely tortured soul and was highly abusive towards the end. Papa has the drive to be the man in control, he likes to boss around his wife and Jeanne. For example, when he told Jeanne she can’t be with some hakajin boy. At the time, he seemed like a horrible father but the lessons she learns are the most important part. She learns to let go of her fear of the outside world and work towards
