Fire fighters should put out fires not ignite them. In a dystopian society where firefighters burn book and houses is the form of society Guy Montag lives in. In the fictional novel “Fahrenheit 451” written by Ray Bradbury, introduces us to the life of a firefighter named Montag who lives with his careless wife Mildred Montag in a society where books are outlawed and censorship rules. The government not being responsible for this type of society tries to make everyone fulfilled with the corrupted world they live in, however it should not be the government's responsibility to ensure everyone is happy because it provokes unhappiness, a increase in suicide rates, and brainwashes the people in this society. In other words Montag's society is corrupt due to the fact that everybody is so caught up in the walls of their parlors that they don't take a second to think nor try to obtain any source of knowledge. For the majority, censorship is the source of happiness because people focus their energies on entertainment. This proves that the government is censoring their right to the truth which is supposed to keep them happy but instead does not. To add on, at the beginning of the book we are introduced to a 17 year old girl, Clarisse McClellan. She asks Montag a life altering question on page 7 which was “Are you happy?”. This is what triggers a change in Montag. This proves that he's wasn't happy because at first he denied the question but soon came to the conclusion that he was not happy and Montag realizes that he lives in a world of conceited people. He realizes that he does not really care about anyone, including his wife Mildred. On page 9 it states "Hell!" the operator's cigarette moved on his lips. We get these cases nine or ten a night. People living in montag's society struggle maintain relationship among each other and struggle to think for themselves. An example of this occurs on page “will you turn the parlor off ? he asked “thats my family.” this explains that mildred has been brainwashed to be obsessed with the parlor walls. The tv walls are a distraction to the society and slowly causes Mildred's relationship to become distant with Montag. Another example occurs on page “oh husbands come and go...Pete I always said,no tears,no nothing like that...he said id I get killed off, you just go ahead and dont cry but get married again,and dont think of me.” This illustrates that the people in their society are severely brainwashed because they don't care about anything but remaining happy, even if it means being careless about the “loved ones”.
