In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, pages 2-8, Author Bradbury explains to us the type of neighborhood Montag’s lives in and who Montag himself is such as a fireman. Bradbury talks about how he comes across his neighbor named Clarisse McClellan. Who is being presented to us as a mirror who Montag see his true self through. She basically challenges everything that he has ever done "Bet I know something else you don't. There's dew on the grass in the morning." He suddenly couldn't remember if he had known this or not, and it made him quite irritable. "And if you look"—she nodded at the sky—"there's a man in the moon." Which all she wants to do is sit at home and watch TV. There relationship was not that strong and they would not express themselves to each other. Montag tries to talk to his wife about he has not been feeling well lately. There connection is not a strong, Mildred spends most of her time with the tv set then with him. Montag then gets emotional and opens up to her and Mildred responds with saying “Let me alone,” said Mildred. “I didn’t do anything.” “Let you alone! That’s all very well, but how can I leave myself alone? We need not to be let alone. We need to be really bothered once in a while. How long is it since you were really bothered? About something important, about something real?” (Bradbury pg 56). This line says a lot about who we are as people and how we don't take look at the big picture sometimes or we see it but just don't want to recognize it. Which connects back to McGiverons mirror article which mainly focus on Montag starting to notice the little things that are happening around him and how Montag's realizes it but maybe just doesn't want to accept it. He is tied between listing to his government, continuing in his career he has had since his twenties or Clarisse who is like on the other side of mirror representing the real person Montag himself wants to
