In the united states of America, being an African American has not been easy. No matter where you are, who you are, people has always been stereotypical toward black people. In a short story “Juba” by Rion Scott, the narrator a young black African American man is being mistaken to be someone else. The main character was determined to find who juba is and why people are saying bad things about this person. When the narrator finds Juba and they get to know each other, all the bad thoughts and image he had in his mind for Juba change. The narrator energy was misguided Because the narrator was misidentified, which leaded him to be determined, and brave throughout the story. The narrator in this short story shows persistence even when everybody told him to give and when the police brutally arrested him. “I didn’t that I had been yelling and screaming all along: I am not Juba! I am not Juba! I am not Juba! They had been telling me to shut up, but I kept screaming, I am not Juba! As I lay there on the ground.” (Scott 83). When the narrator was released from jail the next day one of the officers advises him to watch his back because is still out there and anything can happen. This made the narrator more curious about finding found who Juba is. The narrator missed his job interview due to him being called Juba. At moment like you feel like giving up but this the time the narrator sat down and did some investigation on Juba. Although the narrator faced challenging situations, he kept on moving forward by looking for juba when it would have been so easy for him to quit. Clearly the narrator wants to be successful in finding Juba instead of doing something that will benefit him in a long
