It is entirely fair to blame Macbeth for his own downfall. Macbeth led himself to downfall by falling to his fatal flaws and destroys himself with his own thoughts and wicket, selfish ambitions. Macbeth’s actions were all based on his own overpowering ambitions and clouded judgements which lead to his own destruction. The ambitions that Macbeth held close to his created an inner turmoil brining himself to an abrupt tragic end. From the beginning Macbeth was able to choose his own fate. Macbeth had willingly listened to the witches predictions and in fact said ‘stay, you imperfect speakers and tell me more’ (1.3.71) which shows that Macbeth was willing and able to believe that what the withes were saying had great importance to him. His conscience is constantly irritating him and making him doubt some of his decisions but through it all Macbeth lets lady Macbeth cloud his judgment. Macbeth a first does not want to murder Duncan and states ‘We will proceed no further in this business’ (1.7.32), yet after he speaks to Lady Macbeth he says ‘I am settled, and bend up /Each corporal agent to this terrible feat’ (1.7.79-80). Macbeth is allowing himself to be swayed by the ones around him including the woman he loves Lady Macbeth and he chooses to listen to other rather than simple instincts. Throughout the play Macbeth goes down on a steady spiral of his own insanity and physical hardship that he caused. The people in his life can easily influence his decisions and actions to achieve his goal of ‘success’ because he has made himself vulnerable to being prejudiced. In my opinion Macbeth had two choices in his life one was to live a life where he was well respected by the king and had the ability to eventually been crowned thane of Cawdor and maybe eventually king or forcefully enter the hierarchy by killing friends and their families which would have always ended bad. Macbeth was willing to choose the path that lead to death and destruction one that Lady Macbeth only showed him so he had the choice.
