The kingdom of Thebes is struck by a plague. So Oedipus, The King asked Creon, queen Jocasta’s brother to seek guidance from a Apollo. Apollo says that it is because of the injustice death of the previous king, King Laius.
The blind seer Tiresias tells Oedipus that it would be better for all if he does not tell what he knew. He says that it will reveal themselves but Tiresias answers that Oedipus will be shamed and horrified when he learns the truth about his true parentage.
Queen Jocasta told Oedipus that an oracle said to her and her husband,the old king, would be killed by their child,but that never happened since they abandoned the baby and her husband was killed by robbers at a crossroads.
When Oedipus hears further that Laius was killed by robbers he is deeply disturbed and begins to suspect that he is murderer. He hesitates to reveal his suspicion, but he becomes more and more convinced of his own guilt.
