There are many people at fault for this, not just Romeo and Juliet. There is a complicated interplay of impulse choices and misunderstandings that lead to the depressing demise of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Laurence plays a significant role in the events that unfold, such as giving Juliet a potion to fake her death and failing to deliver a crucial message to Romeo in time. In Act 5, Scene 3, after discovering the bodies of Romeo and Juliet Friar Laurence admits his culpability, stating "I am the greatest, able to do least, / Yet most suspected, as the time and place / Doth make against me, of this direful murder; / And here I stand, both to impeach and purge / Myself condemned and myself excused" (5.3.235-239). Another character who has some responsibility for Romeo and Juliet's tragic death is Tybalt. His rage and bloodlust for revenge against Romeo for crashing the Capulet’s party ultimately lead to a chain of events that result in the deaths of both characters. Lord Capulet's words and threats towards Juliet push her into a corner, where she feels she has no other option but to fake her death in order to avoid marrying Paris. Lord Capulet expresses his anger towards Juliet, Lord Capulet's actions contribute to the tragic end of his daughter and Romeo, how depressing the lack of parental support and guidance is the true cause of this, if their parents were more accepting they would have shared their love. Lord and Lady Capulet are the ones at fault, for not letting her be free. There are hundreds of ways this could have been avoided. For example, after Romeo got banished, Juliet could have denied marrying Paris and just left Verona. Her Father said so, “Hang thee, young baggage! Disobedient wretch. I tell thee what: get thee to church a Thursday, / Or never after look me in the face" (3 5.161-163) This really shows how overwhelmed, and tired Romeo and Juliet were.
