Human Opression The oppression and human misery that can define what a dystopian society is, can be found within the novels Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Divergent by Veronica Roth. The setting that Ray Bradbury gives to the novel, Fahrenheit 451, can be described as manipulating, ironic and unethical. This novel gives us an insight of what the effect of books have on us and how the world would be if everyone was taught to believe that books were only made because there is “not enough hurt in the world” (Bradbury 101). Veronica Roth sets the novel, Divergent, in a futuristic society where people are divided into “factions”. As you see societies that are based on the same idea are always share differences and similarities between all of them. How the people of these societies deal with their situations and what they do during the day shows the differences in them. In Anthem, you see a society that the government has total control over and the people have no control over anything that happens and they are on a set schedule and they are just seen as workers and nobody is different. While in Divergent people are allowed to choose their future and they have some say in life and they aren’t just seen as workers they actually have a meaning where they come from. Looking at both of them based around the same thing shows the difference in government control and how people

To make this seem more confusing the empire was actually a mosaic of many cultures so that means it was a combination of more than one religions. In Aztec religion there were 5 ages or “5 suns”.
The book Divergent takes place in a "post-apocalyptic Chicago" and the book is set in future time so the technology has a big improvement such as the government injecting serums to people and controlling them the way they want to and they can even get into someone's mind by injecting the serum again. So from that we understand that this book is set in the future time. The world has been into a big war which got everything messed up. So people left there, decided to build a big wall to separate the two sides.
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and Divergent by Veronica Roth are two novels with similar facets and extreme differences. Divergent takes place within a dystopian world, where attributes predestine the future, and anyone who does not fit into only one category is told to condemn and hide their status. Brave New World exists in a totalitarian technology driven society in which the production of people is factory run, and a caste system is the backbone of society. Both novels contain themes around how the government views and controls rebellion, using shared ideas, characters, and point of view to warn and teach about corruption through the use of predestination, shared knowledge, and caste systems, however these ideas differ in some places,

I am reading Divergent by Veronica Roth and the character I chose was Caleb Prior. I chose him because I’m interested in how he can be so selfless. But he he can’t lie very well and he’s good at keeping secrets. He is like this because the faction he lives in they have to be selfless and think of others.
Jeanine Mathew uses a serum which is inserted into the members of the Dauntless faction to control them without them knowing that they are being controlled, Jeanine Matthew is then starting to make Dauntless kill each person from the Abnegation faction, which would allow her to have control over the whole city. Divergent is similar to Harrison Bergeron because in Harrison Bergeron the government forced people to wear weights, masks, and earpieces, and in Divergent people were forced to get a serum inserted inside their necks. Divergent and Harrison Bergeron shared a common topic “Corruption”, and both showed how corruption was used to control people and use their power in a wrong
