Preston uses both types of lines in this piece, both organic which are the soft, curved and flowing lines in the mountains, and inorganic, structural lines, being the tree stumps. The most significant line direction that is used is diagonal, where the lines lead your eyes over the composition from the foreground and through the mountain ranges to the clouds in the far background. Both vertical and horizontal lines are also used for the trees and the horizon line. Preston has used both naturalistic and curvilinear shapes to give the landscape a realistic appearance, however, her shapes are also a little stylised and simplified to their essential character.

The perfectly blue sky shows a hope in the distance indicating the help the drover needs in this story.
There was a focus point which is Saint Francis. Although the painting mainly consist of black and tan colors, the slight bright colors to balance of the black. This help bring out the details, such as the blessing on hands and the kneeling of people. Yet, the details were not too big that it would be too much to handle. This helps get the message across to the audience, like myself.
This acrylic painting was completed by Lawrence Smith, and is representational. Smith uses lines and color to divide the areas and to give each element its figure. He uses mostly cool colors (green and blue) which gives the painting a sort of calming effect. Smith uses proportion to show that the light house is further away by making the rocks larger and the trees smaller. He used shapes like triangles for the tree branches.
Viewing the painting, brightens the light in the artwork. There is a sense of reality as the light seems to move through the clouds. The faces of the characters are shown by light and there is an effect of light moving by walking in front of the scene. Emotions are evoked when one looks at this scene. However the building figures are much more detailed as opposed to the boat figures. With the building figures, the onlooker can identify other boat figures set close to the buildings.

The calm sea at the horizon is painted with unreal tones of pink, sky blue, and violet whereas the boat, painted with tones of indigo, orange and green, seem to move along with the light breeze.
Research Topic: I have considered the idea of researching why trade jobs are not being filled in recent years. The number of college graduates with above average student loan debt is on the rise. I am worried that with this ongoing rate, that it will possibly cause another recession when the majority of the loans get defaulted. And by then, we would have companies laying off worker by the masses. I know folks at home who are employers of skill trade companies.
