A Rainis in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is set between the end of the world war 2 and the 1950s. The younger family aren’t as fortunate as other families. The youngers live in poverty on the Southside of the Chicago. Walter lee younger is the husband of Ruth and the father of Travis, Walter is the most influential character in the writing.
Walter lee is very obnoxious because he doesn’t go to work and all he does is annoy everyone and drink. Ruth looks at Mama and says “oh, let him go on out and drink himself to death he makes me sick to my stomach”. This shows the younger family can’t deal with him going out and drinking. Ruth picks up the phone and Walter boss wife called to say,” if you don’t come in tomorrow they are getting a new man.”
