Downfall of Macbeth In the story of Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth started towards the top, but he had his downfall throughout his time as king. There were three groups of people that were involved in the downfall of Macbeth. The witches were an important group that helped lead to Macbeth’s downfall, Lady Macbeth played another important role, and lastly, Macbeth himself was one of the most important roles in his own downfall. In the story Macbeth, three witches that Macbeth had gone to for prophecies had an important role in his downfall. “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!” said by the third witch. The witches gave Macbeth prophecies of his life that made him believe that he will always be great and that no one will be able to ruin him. “Be bloody, bold, and resolute! Laugh to scorn the pow’r of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth.” Said by an apparition of a bloody child created by the witches. This apparition created by the witches told Macbeth that no man ever born from a woman shall harm him. The witches pumped up Macbeth’s ego and made him believe he was invincible.
