Do you believe a person should be assassinated for doing what they believe is right ? Malcolm X was tragically assassinated by Thomas X Hagan in the Audubon Ballroom in New York on February 21, 1965. He assassinated Malcolm X by shooting him while he was giving a speech, making it his last one. Thomas X Hagan assassinated Malcolm X because they thought Malcolm X was going to harm the Nation of Islam after he left it. The assassination of Malcolm X was unjust because he was a civil rights leader and was a member of the Nation of Islam (NOI); however some people believe that he caused major conflicts that lead to the death of many.
Malcolm X was a prominent civil rights leader. Malcolm X gave many speeches preaching his thoughts about racial justice and equality. According to Powerless at Home, Dangerous Abroad, “Given that Malcolm X is best remembered for his forthright views on self-defense, black nationalism, and Islam, it is something of a surprise that the Civil Rights Act—and the broader issue of propaganda and the American image— occupied such a prominent place in his notes and speeches in the final months of his life” (Tuck 1). Heroes & Holy Places, “Malcolm wanted to make a religious pilgrimage to Mecca in the hopes of redefining his own beliefs. After joining the Black Muslims, he had become one of the sect's most influential leaders. He was committed to the goals of the Nation of Islam” (El Fald 1). As a member Malcolm X showed commitment and contribution to the nation’s goals. He even encouraged more than 1,000 people to join the Nation of Islam.
