The sudden death of famous comedian Chris Farley in the late 90’s was a tragic event. He was found dead in his apartment and according to his autopsy he was consuming a large amount of drugs and alcohol. Chris Farley was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1964, and was raised as a devoted Roman Catholic. Supported by a loving and caring family and being a very successful comedian, brings up the question. What caused Chris Farley to end his life? In comparison Chris’s brother, Kevin, grew up with Chris and was only a year younger. At a young age Chris showed his comedic talents, his brothers would describe him as “a wound up toy”. The main reason why Chris became known as a class clown in his family was that it was the only way he could get attention. The attention he strived for the most was his fathers. In the Farley home, all of the children looked up to and admired their father. He only worked for his father for less than a year before he got introduced to Ark Improv Theater, and Improv Olympic Theater. This is where Chris got his start in comedy, but also got his start in drugs. When Chris started working for Ark Improv Theater, he was introduced to drugs such as cocaine from his fellow co-workers. This started an even greater threat to Chris Farley’s health. After a few years in performing small venue shows with the Ark Improve Theater, Chris Farley got his first shot in television by becoming part of the main cast for Saturday Night Live. SNL is where Chris’s self esteem really went downhill. Almost every character he played was portrayed as a fat, sweaty, idiot. Although this gave Chris’s fans a lot of laughs, people never realized that they weren’t laughing at his jokes, but they were laughing at him. Being laughed at for everything Chris did only fueled his depression and anxiety, and in return increased his alcohol and drug usage until everything came to an end for Chris Farley.
