Who will win the battle to death? In the book The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, 24 juveniles are chosen to fight in the Hunger Games. Here they will test themselves, build alliances, be indebted to others, and see what their true abilities are when fending for themselves. Only one person may win. Some ways some people “owed” other people are: Katniss feeling like she owed Peeta for the bread he gave her when they were younger, District 11 feeling like they owed Katniss for how she cared for Rue, and Thresh felt like he owed Katniss for being Rue’s partner. Next, Katniss feels indebted to Peeta over the bread he gave to her when they were young because she was starving. Katniss says how she still feels like she is still deeply indebted to Peeta because of the bread he decided to give her when she was near death from starvation due to lack of food in the District when she was young. …show more content…

This shows that Katniss never let go of the pressuring thought of how she feels that she owes Peeta for the bread that he gave her as an act of kindness when they were kids. Peeta doesn’t feel that she should still feel indebted to him over the bread he gave her, because she most likely would’ve died without it. He assures her that the bread wasn’t a big deal and that she shouldn’t have any doubts about it. Then, Thresh let Katniss live because of how she partnered with Rue and took care of her. He felt indebted to Katniss for caring for Rue. While having a discussion with Peeta, Katniss brings up how Thresh was paying off debts that he had with her for her treatment of Rue when he let her go. “All of which leads to what happened with Thresh and how he was paying off debts of some sort.” pg 292. This shows how Thresh felt that he should let her go because of how she cared for Rue and made an alliance with her. He felt he had debt against Katniss for that, and decided to let her live to get rid of the
