“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” (Colossians 3:23, KJV) In the story,A Single Shard, the main character, Tree-ear, resembles wholeheartedness, he does not act on eyeservice, and he is respectful and obedient. Even though he does not believe believe in God, his actions still resemble that of Christ. Tree-ear is not just striving to become a potter, but he is doing everything in his power to achieve that goal. Tree-ear shows his honesty and trustworthiness in pursuing his desires.

Wholeheartedness is a major part of our everyday life, which can also be described as giving the best that can be given. In the third chapter of A Single Shard, Tree-ear shows wholeheartedness in almost everything that he did. While he was cutting clay and chopping wood, Tree-ear shows his wholeheartedness. He gave his best in whatever he could, and we should strive to do the same, just as God wants us to.

Eyeservice is doing things just to please others. God does not want us to that way. He wants us to be real and acknowledge him in all that we do.
