Although, this might not tackle Thompson’s main concern of reducing parking areas, driverless cars for ride-sharing purposes will bring numerous benefits. Uber has been gaining popularity over the past few years, reportedly “making 1 million trips per day; this past summer,” (5) from their standard service. The newly introduced ride-sharing service by Uber – Uber Pool –has unexpectedly performed exceptionally well (5). The success of Uber Pool can be attributed to cheaper prices – being at least 25 percent cheaper compared to typical Uber fare (5) – and social norms transitioning to being environmentally ethical. With these strengths from ride-sharing, there is no doubt the introduction of driverless cars to the ride-sharing transportation sector would make it more proficient.
Employment is an issue in the city of Milwaukee for youth ages 15 to 24. This age group is plagued with issues that limit their ability to obtain and sustain employment. The most common issues being: lack of transportation, lack of either high school diplomas or college degrees, limited availability due to school scheduling, and lack of experience in the work force that would make them more employable. What these youth do have is a want and a need to generate income for themselves and often times for their families as well. DreamBikes primary purpose is to provide an opportunity where there commonly is not one.
Their kids should be their number one priority to keep safe, “yet parents seem to treat the right of a 16-year-old to drive as an inalienable one, something to be neither questioned nor abridged” (Quindlen 503). For a sixteen-year-old to drive is considered mandatory so parents don’t have to take them or their siblings to school or practice. When an older sibling gets their license, the parents don’t have to be as much of a parent as they should. Parents are so lazy now, “in a nation that developed mass-transit amnesia and traded the exurb for the small town, a licensed son or daughter relieves parents of a relentless roundelay of driving” (Quindlen 503). Parents look forward to being able to tell their kids to go pick up some food so they don’t have to get out.
On a daily basis, you might see teenagers texting on their phones or searching the web on their laptops, but have you ever imagine the possible dangers they could be in? Installing spyware on teens’ computers for the wrong purpose can lead to an increasing amount of problems such as the lack of trust and the invasion of privacy. In his persuasive essay,” The Undercover Parent,” (2008) Harlen Coben claims that parents should be able to monitor their children on the Internet as long as it is strictly for protection. Through the use of real-life examples, such as cyberbullying, pedophiles, and digital footprint, he encourages parents to provide a safe environment during their online experience.
Chauffeur companies are a brilliant idea for busy families. According to the article “Chauffeur Companies Cater to Children on the Go.” it says, “A growing number of families are relying on the services to move kids to and from school, after-school activities and other destinations.” These companies help children get to school, after school activities, and drop them off at home. This is very helpful for parents who are working and may not have time to take their children to the places that they need to go.
In Harlan Coben’s article “The Undercover Parent” (2008), the author claims that parents should protect their children by getting spyware on their devices to protect them from the dangers of the Internet. Coben supports his claim by first providing an illustration of what most people think when they hear the word “spyware” and then giving an example of why you should get spyware to protect your child. The author’s purpose is to persuade parents of teenagers so that they get spyware to protect their children because he first thought it was bad, but then he saw the good of it. Coben writes in an informational and conversational tone for parents to understand him in order to protect their children against the dangers of the internet.
Harlan Coben’s editorial article “The Undercover Parent” (March 16,2008) suggests that putting spyware on your child’s computer is a good idea. Throughout the article Coben supports his thesis by first telling a short story, then listing different counterarguments throughout his paragraphs. Coben says that “Most parents won’t even consider it.” I agree with most of his points, but also disagree with a few. Here is my response.

If a teen has their licenses they can drive themselves to and from work. Driving lets teens be able to get a job and make money, which will help them become more mature. Driving teaches teenagers responsibility.
