In the term paper, I am going to write about the Greek gods. I am writing about this topic because I take Latin, and the gods have always been an interesting topic to me. I am going to investigate what they were needed for, and how they became to be the gods they are now. Once I answer these questions, I will be able to answer the question on why the Greek gods were so important.
Greek mythology has changed and evolved over the years to accommodate different beliefs and ideas. These characters in Greek mythology have shaped stories over the years. It has integrated into several different cultures including the Romans. The gods and beasts of Greek Mythology were always fighting and warring with each other and destroying one another. These myths involve titans, nymphs, monsters and gods contrasting different vices and virtues, becoming the pillars of our religious speculations and of our moral standards in our western culture. The primitive versions of these stories, traveled by word of mouth during the time era; nevertheless, as society evolves, these tales were transcribed by Epic Poets such as Homer, creator of the first recorded version of the myths titled “Iliad and Odyssey”.

In order to have a well educated, unbiased public, schools must uncover these lost myths and use them to educate students on civilizations of the past. Myths are a tangle of tradition, lessons and explanations for natural events that had been passed down through oral storytelling before being recorded.
