Sparta was once one of the most important Greek city-states throughout Greece, famous for their military lifestyle. When you think of a Spartan warrior, you vision a man with huge muscles, red cloaks, long hair, and sharp swords. Spartan warriors were the best and feared fighters in Greece, they spend their whole lives learning new fighting techniques and serving their home, Sparta. At around six or seven years old, young boys would be taken from their homes to be trained as Spartan warriors.
These fragments have been harder to read since, the use of words, the logic and sequence of events were not as organized as in Poetics. Personally, the origin and the lineages of the Greek gods is not as interesting and significant as Aristotle’s literature. The Theogony centers on these Greek traditions of assigning gods to explain the unknown and nature phenomena. There’s nothing wrong with it since they didn’t have the resources as we do today in order to understand and explain most of the events of today’s world. There are many ways in which society can go back and analyze past events in order to improve the future, I just don’t see the point of going back and analyze how the origin of Greek gods can improve our society and well-being.
In Greece the Greeks looked up to the gods and goddesses of the Greek culture. The gods and goddesses were the rulers of Greece and had the most power. They over saw everything the humans would do whether it being barbaric or civilized. There were a number of Greek gods and goddesses, but some over powered others. They fought in many wars and helped humans accomplish many different activities in order for them to survive.
Greek mythology is a person favorite thing to research about because the things like goddesses,monsters, places. In greek mythology zeus is the youngest son that cronus and rhea have, he was the supreme ruler olympics and the pantheon of gods, and originally worshiped as a weather god by greek tribes. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme the ruler of gods, as well as lord of the sky and rain. Zeus the deity of the universe, ruler of the skies and earth,zeus is important to greek mythology, because he was the god of the sky and the ruler of olympian gods.
They associated each of their gods with a different aspect of life or nature. For example Zeus was the king of the gods, Athena was the goddess of wisdom, Dionysus was the god of wine, and the list goes on. The ancient Greeks erected massive temples to these gods for worship. Each god or goddess had his or her own temple for sacrifices or offerings. They Greeks believed sacrifice was necessary to appease the gods and keep everyday life fruitful and peaceful.
Greek mythology can be viewed as a mirror to the ancient Greek civilization. Ancient Greek myths and legends often reflected how the Greeks saw themselves. Myths were used by Greeks to make justifications of every existing aspect of earth as well as their own society. In myths, Greek gods & heroes often represented key aspects of the human civilization. From Greek mythology, we can learn about the favorable characteristics of humans, such as their behavior and valuable skills that were approved of by the ancient Greek society.
Many mythological characters are still significant today. In schools all across the United States, Greek mythology is taught to students in schools. These myths are important because they teach lessons on differences between right and wrong, as well as showing how characters deal with life lessons. Pop culture is still impacted today by Greek myths.
In the epic poem The Odyssey, Homer portrays Greek gods and goddesses as possessing human qualities and faults. Through their actions and emotions, Homer emphasizes the detrimental effects of lust, envy, wrath, and greed in ancient Grecian society. He also never fails to remind readers of the importance of respect for holy figures because of their powerful abilities to create chaos and wonder". Homer wants to prove that gods and humans share a variety of traits, and the only difference is that god don’t allow these flaws negatively to impact their society. To help further his argument, we can compare Greek gods and goddesses to that of Christianity.
Three years ago I started reading Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan. This book series are the adventures of a 12 year old demigod saving the human world against mythological creatures with his friends. He discovers his terrible fate when he is a suspect from taking the master bolt of Zeus and since he’s a child of Poseidon he has to defeat the monsters from the underworld that come from tartarus. A demigod is when a god and a human have a kid (half-human, half-god). Demigods have characteristics of dyslexia and ADHD.
Through these tales, the explanation of human nature and behaviour is explained leading to a greater understanding of the origin of such human acts.
