Why citizens don’t vote? The united states is a democracy country. Every four years citizens have to vote to elect a new president. This is a free country where citizens are not obligated to vote. They vote if they want, and if they don’t want to vote no one tells them anything. People can encourage them to vote, but other than that no one can make them. In the 2016 election only 57.9% of eligible voters voted. In the other hand 90 million of citizens did not vote. Why are citizens not voting in elections? What drives them to omit their votes. Americans are busy people who have to work, take care of their families and some other things that they consider more important than voting. In the article “Holding Election on Tuesday,” the writer states, “No one else does that. Most democracies vote on weekends, or have more than one day to vote, or get a day off work to vote. But America: Tuesday.” There are many countries who have their election day on a weekend and it works great that way, more people go out and vote. In the contrary the United States’ congress decided to stablished a Tuesday for election day. The day where the majority of the registered citizens have to out and work. Obligations tend to get in the way to civil duty such as election day. No one can blame a citizen for not going to vote because the election day is not properly stablished and does not work for the majority of people. By the time that the people gets out of work the polls are closed or the lines are long. They are tired and many of them stressed about their jobs, they are not willing to wait the long line and vote. It is easier just to avoid all that and go home and relax. We should change the day to the weekend or at least give two days to go to
