When Hamlet’s father dies, he grieves about it for months. That caused him to think about alienating himself from the world and to lose interest from the purpose of life. Finding no reason to live and started questioning the true meaning of life. “What is a man / If his chief good and market of his time / Be but to sleep and feed?” (Shakespeare 4.4. 35-37). Hamlet is contemplating, whether he should continue to live or end his life. The prince of Denmark became so distraught from losing his father, he felt there was no reason to live. Believing that being in heaven with him would be much more enjoyable than being in Denmark, where he did not see the need to live in a corrupted world ruled by the new King, Claudius. Hamlet did not feel like he belonged in Elsinore anymore. Feeling abandoned by his mother because of her remarriage to Claudius, which initiated his depression.
