The Aztec Empire consisted of different city-states, also known as altepetl, ruled by a king, tlatoani, and a supreme judge and administrator, cihuacoatl. The king had to come from a noble or royal family to be considered to be king and is his responsibility to rule all of the city- states for the rest of his life (Tarlton law…, 2016). Since the king is a part of the noble class, it affected the way he dressed because he wanted to show off his status.

The times of day were similar to what is seen now in America, with a meal taking hold in the morning, midday, and evening. Though the meals evolved and changed as the empire itself did, one can look at the different meals and be able to make connections between them and those of today’s importance. An ordinary citizen wore an undyed loincloth and cloak and was not allowed to wear sandals in the palace, violation of law would lead to death penalty. Nobles wore cotton cloaks borders of precious stones. The Craftsmen were allowed to dye the cotton in different colors; and certain geometric designs were woven into their cloak to symbolize their status in the culture.
