The European explorations begin the era of the Colonial Latin Americas. In 1492 Christopher Columbus arrived to the Americas and it is colonized. From that moment on,
LEQ prompt 1 During the period between 1607 and 1754, the British had established colonies in North America, inspired by the riches and wealth gained by the Spanish upon the conquest of the Aztecs and Incas in the 16th century, the early British settlements had hoped for the same riches and discoveries in the northern Americas. The first successful permanent settlement was established in Jamestown Virginia, and as time advances the English established thirteen colonies divided geographically into three regions: new England, middle and southern colonies. Socially the English colonists were similar by the means that they shared an English heritage but differed greatly in lifestyle, politically and economically the colonies had many differences,
Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492. His discovery of the New World created a chain reaction leading to the Age of Exploration. Portugal, Spain, England, Holland, and France immediately set forth to claim land and set up a colonization in the New Worlds. Many explorers were sent out to claim whatever land they could for their country. Explorers such as Jacques Cartier, Francisco Pizzaro, Francisco Vasquez De Coronado, and Hernando Cortes were all looking for land to claim.
In 1492, supported by Spain and tasked with finding a westward route to Asia by sea and negotiate trade agreements, Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. After two more voyages to the New World, Columbus died in 1506 thinking he had discovered a route to Asia. Not until another explorer by the name of Amerigo Vespucci came to South America, did the Europeans discover they had stumbled upon an entirely different continent. Entry 2 Where did the Spanish settle in the New World?
One country had several different motives when settling the Americas, which played a great role in their development. New England was originally founded by the Massachusetts
The end of the fifteenth century is attributed as the time period in which Christopher Colombus “discovered” the Americas. Although he was allegedly the first European to have reached these unknown lands at the time, many sought to reach the new world, for a variety of reasons. Most of those people could be divided in two: the settlers and the conquerors. In North America, there were more of the former, people looking for a new home where they could rebuild their families and lives. In Meso-America, however, the goal was to exploit the lands in order to produce and extract new goods which they could trade.
During the colonial era of America, Great Britain was able to reek the benefits of this royal colony’s success. This was in large part due to the fact that Britain was able to integrate this society into its imperial system. English leaders understood that the American colonies represented a marketplace for goods, a safety valve, and a place in which competition flourished with other leading empires. One of the most important reasons why Great Britain established colonies in America was to create another form of revenue.
The Spaniards made a big impact in the Americas. They killed many Incas,Tainos, and Aztecs. These populations lost many including their emperors. On the Spaniard 's side they had power by killing Atahualpa and Montezuma they could create colonies and take riched back to their country. The Spaniards weren 't the only ones to look for riches in the New World.
Europe, such as Spain, France, and England, have had different language, culture, political system, religion and more, which they developed by themselves in their civilization. In the late 1400s to 1500s, Europeans started the colonization and economic competitions each other between countries to get more assets since their resources and lands were limited and not enough. At that time, Spaniards and French had the same purpose for exploring the New World such as pursuing wealth, winning the economic competition, but they approached to Native Americans in different ways. The difference between these two countries when they encounter with Indians was the relationship with Native Americans. Spanish and Christopher Columbus were too absorbed on finding golds and slaves to make a thriving trade when Spain discovered the new land and met Native Americans.
When Columbus came to the Americas in search of land for his king, he also came to claim land for God” (Spreading Religion in the Age of Exploration). The Europeans spread Christianity, and it became very popular among the colonies of the New World. “Roman Catholicism was the official religion of Spain, so the Spanish conquistadors sought to spread Catholicism throughout their colonies, in addition to accumulating wealth and power” (Spreading Religion in the Age of Exploration). The Spanish missionaries worked very hard throughout the Americas and attempted to evangelize Native American groups.
Differences Between the Spanish and the New England colonies in the New World. New Spain was controlled by spain, and covered from the bottom of South America to what is now the Southern United States. New England was a collection of a few different English colonies and took up what is the modern day Northeast United States. Even though the Spanish and English colonies were colonies of powerful European countries, the colonies developed very differently. The Spanish colonies and the New England colonies were significantly different in the their roles of religion, economic bases, and their treatment of indigenous people.
The arrival of Europeans to the Americas signaled a clash of the Old World and the New World. The profiteering Spanish had made their impression upon the Natives of these continents with bloody conquest and exploitation. The English crossed over the Atlantic with similar hopes of profit and contempt for Spanish expansionism. How these Englishmen conducted themselves would lay some of the groundwork for a future nation, the United States of America. This particular nation would be born at the expense of countless others.
The English were more concerned with finding gold rather than building functioning societies; which were primarily built around biblical teachings, while the Spanish intended for European national power to extend to western civilization beginning with Catholicism and influence of the pope. English settlers were driven from England due to religious practices and perceived themselves as saving the Indians from the Spanish and their tyrannical ways. For the English, owning land would give men control over their own labor and the right to vote in most colonies, and this land possession would show wealth. This new obtained wealth would not only have demonstrated power, but it could also be used to influence a society a certain way to convince others to follow suit. The English believed that their motives for colonization were pure, and that the growth of empire and freedom would always go together, unlike the Spanish.
In 1494, the Treaty of Tordesillas was established in order to evenly divide unclaimed lands between Portugal and Spain. This led to the Line of Demarcation, in which the non-European world was divided into two zones. Portugal had rights to the eastern hemisphere, and Spain had rights to the western hemisphere. This allowed Spain to colonize areas in the New World. Even though they had this opportunity, they were not able to colonize specific areas in North America due to competition with other European countries.
From this the Spain were able to grow their army and hence, their political power. Next in line were the France who landed in North America and discovered the land to be ripe with animal pelts which brought great wealth to the French. The Dutch had found the same success as the France.
