The State of Texas was not justified in seceding from the United States because the United States (Union) gave Texas a chance to be a full slavery state, helped Texas economically and financially, and Texas could have used their geography and economy to support themselves and the United States. The United States (Union) gave Texas a chance to be a full-slavery state. Before Abraham Lincoln was elected president, he said that a country divided between slavery and free could not last and that the United States had to choose between either full slavery or fully free. (Document 7) After Texas heard this, they got a little nervous because Lincoln was known for being against slavery. After Lincoln got elected, the St ate of Texas got even more nervous and then seceded.
Soldiers from many states fought for their side in the battle. This brings up a confounding question. Why did Texans fight in the Civil War? Firstly, Texans were willing to fight in the Civil War because of their loyalty to Texas.
Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
The Civil War is known as the bloodiest war the U.S ever fought in, and many people volunteered, including Texans. Slavery has been splitting the U.S apart for a long time, and everyone knew that war would come eventually. Tension was building between the two sides, but the last straw for the South was when Abraham Lincoln, an anti slavery man, was elected for president. The Southern states then began to secede from the Union, with South Carolina leading. Texas was the 7th state to secede, but Sam Houston was forced to resign due to not taking the Confederate oath.
This war happened mainly because the U.S. wanted to expand to the Pacific Ocean to fulfill their Manifest Destiny, trying to take away Mexico’s land. Mexico refused to to give land to the U.S. The big question is whether the U.S. was justified in fighting Mexico in the Mexican-American War. The United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Manifest Destiny, too much Mexican interference, and Texas was invaded. A laundress, by name of Sally Thomas had a better advantage than most black slaves in her time. She gave birth to John H. Rapier Sr., Henry K. Thomas, and James P. Thomas, three mulatto boys, meaning they were mixed with African and white descent. She was well-respected by the whites and had many connections them which would pay off for her and her sons. After Sally Thomas’s slave owner, Charles L. Thomas died she and her sons were left no choice, but to move to from their home in Virginia to another Thomas family owned plantation in Tennessee. Though, she worried that like other slave children they would be sold because as handsome and vigorous they were they would be an excellent price.
