After World War II, North Korea surrendered to the Soviet Union and South Korea surrendered to the Unites States. Eventually, North and South Korea wanted to re-unite Korea as a country; however, both had diverse thoughts on how the government and their lives would be run. With Joseph Stalin's approval, North Korean troops invaded South Korea. Americans saw this as Communist belligerence and achieved support from the United Nation to send American troops to intercede. President Truman accentuated the action by the United States which was taken as a constituent of the United Nations. President Truman released a statement that said, in part, the “attack upon Korea makes it plain beyond all doubt that Communism has passed beyond the use of subversion to conquer independent nations and will now use armed invasion and war" (Truman Orders U.S. Forces to Fight in Korean War). South Korea was in desperate need of the United States help. South Korea was confused and barely had any leadership which is why the United States had to step in. North Korea attacked South Korea and our United Nation without any warning which killed thousands. North Korea did this because they knew the South barely had any supplies and the limited amount of supplies they had were broken or getting worked on and wanted them to surrender. The North wanted the South to surrender because they wanted Korea to become one country under communist rule; however, the United States and the people of South Korea had a different plan. This war showed everyone around the world that the United States could handle anything thrown at them, even when they were already knocked down. Even though the war lasted three years, the United States handled this war remarkably because we came up with a truce to end the war with
