“Of the more than 2220 persons aboard, about 1500 died, including the American millionaires John Jacob Astor (1864–1912), Benjamin Guggenheim (1865–1912), and Isidor Straus. Titanic's captain, Edward J. Smith of England, went down with the ship” (Titanic Disaster). On April 14th, 1912- April 15th 1912, the “Unsinkable” ship and the biggest man made moving thing of all history at the time sank. In the Northern Atlantic ocean, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg (How Did the "Unsinkable" Titanic Sink?). This triggered a long chain of events in which the Titanic would sink. A large iceberg hit the Titanic after they had thought they had missed it. Water started to fill in the watertight compartments, which the Titanic could withstand having at most four of them full, and soon, six of the watertight compartments were full which triggered the boat and it started to sink. The crew started uncovering lifeboats and getting them loaded, but the Titanic continued to rise up where it had been hit. It was getting very steep and passengers went to the very top to not die. It started during the day when seven ice warnings were received, but they were ignored to where most of the crew didn’t even know about them. The ship was going full speed in weather it should not have been going that fast in, and around 11:40 p.m., an iceberg was spotted dead ahead. The crew tried to reverse the ship's’ engines to steer around the berg but were too close to it, and it hit the side of the ship. The ship was built to where four of the sixteen watertight compartments were able to flood for the ship to still finish its voyage, but six of them were flooded.
