Through the civil war, the union had three major that turned around the war and helped the union win. Without these advantages the union would have probably not won because of the strong military of the south. Throughout this essay we will review these 3 advantages of the union. One major advantage that helped the Union was population. One example of greater population in the union army is in the battle of Gettysburg. After this battle Lee’s army lost so many of his men that his army was weakened to a point to where he could not repair it any more. The union on the other hand had won this battle and because they had a bigger population they could easily restore there army without a problem. This helped out the union a lot because the soldiers of the union could eat the farm food that the farms of the north planted. Unlike in the south were all the farmers made cotton but soldiers couldn’t eat cotton so cotton didn’t help soldiers in battle, instead of farm food the confederacy made cotton and not very much farm food so the confederate army was starving. At the battle of Vicksburg Ulysses s Grant told the union army to continue a siege on the town of Vicksburg. During this battle the confederate army was hungry because the union army cut off all supplies of food from coming into Vicksburg.
