Pearl Harbor is a U.S Naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii. On December 7, 1941 Japan air forces took attack on to Pearl Harbor. At nearly 8 a.m planes started to attack. This attack was not a planned or known attack that was going to happen. No one knew that it was going to be the beginning of another World War, that we call World War II. Japan and the United States knew that War was going to happen, but never knew this soon. Japanese government knew to better themselves and their economy they had to do something and over take their neighbors. Pearl Harbor was so far away from Japan that it was barely armed with any soldiers. Arizona. The U.S.S. Arizona was very important to this attack due to twenty-three sets of brothers dying on this ship. As well as more than half of the deaths occurred on the U.S.S Arizona. This ship was bombed 4 times during the attack of Pearl Harbor. The United States knew that there would be a war soon to come, but never thought it would happen like it did. The reason why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor was because the United States cut off oil exports in the Summer of 1941. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto knew that if the United States cut off the exporting of oil their Navy would be unable to function. Thinking that if they attacked Pearl Harbor the Japanese Navy would have free reign of the Pacific. Things could have turned out differently for the United States if it weren’t for “bad luck.” The day that the Japanese attacked they broke the Japanese code for, “Magic” and the Japanese sent General George Marshall a letter earlier that day saying, “Be on the alert.” However, General Marshall did not receive this alert until after the attack.
