Why did the US get involved in World War I? The U.S. declared war on April 6th, 1917, while President Wilson had been attempting to create peace between Germany and Britain; the country had desperately tried to stay neutral with the problems accruing with these two. After the continuous attacks against American ships, and propaganda by German U-boats, Germany kept attempting to get Mexico to declare war on the U.S. and stop American supplies from getting to Britain. For this reason the U.S saw itself being pushed to get involved.
Prior to the United States joining the war, it wasn’t looking good for the Allies. Germany was on the offensive and feeling very cocky and confident. Germany was within 40 miles of Paris and if they managed to conquer Paris, their chances of winning the war would increase tremendously. Unfortunately for the Germans, the United States showed up just in time to fight them off. 600,000 American soldiers fought the Germans off and German numbers began to dwindle.
The us did not originally support the entrance into WWI. They didn’t support it because they believed in neutrality rather than going to war and putting US citizens in danger. This all changed when german actions such as mistreating the US on the High Seas, making secret treaties with Mexico and spreading the idea of autocratic government through europe.(Thesis) During this time President Woodrow wilson was elected and thrown into a mess in with foreign countries. Almost all of europe was in war and the US was a bystander watching from the outside. The task for wilson now was to either declare war and help their allies or stay neutral and keep out of it completely.(Historical context)
Wilson viewed America as a nation of peace and he wanted to preserve this view. However, as time went on, the little things the U.S did while claiming its neutrality started to matter. Germans retaliated to the U.S trade with the Allies. One thing led to another and the U.S joined the war under the Allies’
Germany’s broken policies and the decoded Zimmerman note were the major causes of Woodrow Wilson’s declaration of war. When the beginning of World War I came around, it was a very difficult time for everyone. President Wilson pledged a state of neutrality on behalf of the United States and had a vast majority of Americans backing him up in the meantime. However, it wasn’t long until tension started to rise up in America
While the United States proclaimed itself as a neutral country in the beginning of the devastating first World War, many disagree with the statement that America wanted to remain neutral for various reasons. World War I began with the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, then quickly escalated to division into two sides between European countries; including the Allied Powers, which consisted of Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and the Central Powers that included Germany, Austria-Hungary, Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. Since the United States made it obvious they favored the Allied Powers before they entered World War I, the other countries against these nations took this friendliness between the countries and America as a threat and interference of war. This resulted in the Central Powers noticing an unfair disadvantage for themselves.
World War 1 was an atrocious war that caused millions of deaths and hundreds of billions of dollars in reparations. World War 1 lasted from 1914 to 1919 and rudimentarily, was the fight between the Allied powers and the Central powers. The Allied powers consisted of France, Great Britain, Russia, and Belgium while the Central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. All countries had some participation and damage done throughout World War 1, and the countries who started the war may be obscure. However, there are some countries that can especially be picked out for their contribution and cause for the war.
Between 1900-1920 the United States got into two major wars, the Spanish American War and World War 1. The were some similarities between the reasons for entering and the outcomes of them, there were also some differences. There are similarities and differences between the reasons for entering the Spanish American and entering World War 1. Similarities like social Darwinism and differences like militarism.
In August of 1914 Europe was set ablaze with the start of World War I.Countries of the old world quickly formed sides and raced to arms. Both sides felt that there would be a quick victory and the war would be over in short order. Great Britain, France and Russian formed the core of the Allied powers and faced a determined foe in the alliance of Germany, Austro-Hungarian Empire. On the outset of conflict The Central powers quickly gained the upper hand and raced head long into France, upon reaching the Marne River the British and French armies stopped the cold and the stalemate began. America at this time was a neutral and watched from a far as the old world ripped itself apart.
Finally, Germany wasn 't going to give up. They wanted to win this thing. President Wilson said "Victory would mean peace forced upon the loser. " Meaning, if the Allies won the war, then Germany would have to face the consequences, which would end the war (deaths,
U.S. Entry in to World War I There were many factors that influenced the United States to finally declare war on Germany and take the side of the Allied Powers. The two factors that seemed the most important were the United States’ economic interests with Great Britain and President Woodrow Wilson’s desire to have peace talks in Europe. However, because of the time this was in and the condition that America was in, the decision to go to war would have been difficult no matter what.
The United States entered World War I April 6th, 19417. The US joined allies with Britain, France, and Russia to fight in World War I under the commander of Major General John J. Pershing. The US joined World War I for three main causes including moral, economic, and political reasons. Morally, United States citizens were called to duty to enlist in war because of propaganda from anti-German 's. Economically, American citizens entered war to secure economic productivity better yet, make a profit. Politically, unregulated submarine combat from Germany afflicted exports to Britain.
There were many reasons the U.S. entered war in 1917, but I believe the U.S. was two years too late. I believe the U.S. should have entered the war as a partner with the Allies in April of 1915 when the Lusitania was sunk. Germany had been provoking the U.S. for a while, and to me, this should have been the last straw. Germany sunk the Lusitania without any warning, killing many passengers, including 128 Americans, and a heavy military load. This act violated many maritime laws and showed Germany was truly ruthless.
