In 140 BC Wudi took the throne. Wudi wanted to create a strong government. He did this by taking land from lords and raising taxes. he also made it so the government controlled the grain.Wudi made confucianism the philosophy and he was very big on it so he made every one practice it. He even began a university just to study confucianism ideas. Also wudi gave exams and if anyone passed them they could gain a good position in the government. As a result wealthy and influential families continued to control the government. When the Qin dynasty crumbled in 207 BC many groups fiercely battled for power. After years of fighting liu Bang led an army and won control. Liu bang became the first emperor of the Han dynasty. The class structure became more rigid. The family as very important in society. The confucian philosophy was divided into 4 social classes. These classes were emperors government,peasants ,artisans ,and merchants. Military wasn't a part of social class but Military wasn't a part of social class but I had to rise in the social status because they were a part of the government. Peasants had to work day and night to earn a living and make a little money for the family. The Wealthy could afford luxury items,entertainment and some could even afford their own private army to protect their estate.to to sum it up peasants lived in small villages in their homes were made of mud or stamped earth and wealthy lived in luxury multi level houses. The father was the head of the family and the wife/children had to Obey him.children were encouraged to serve their parents as well to honor their dead relatives and family with ceremonies.
