World War II is the most devastating war in all of history. Many factors contributed to the war against the world. These included the Rape or Nanjing, the Holocaust, Nazi Germany, and many of the weapons such as the atomic bomb. Various factors lead up to this event including, D-Day, the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Pearl Harbor, and the surrender of Nazi Germany. World War II did not have an official start because there were very many variables leading to the war. Germany, Italy, and Japan conquer countries and the world does nothing to stop them because after World War I, most countries were having Depressions or economical crashes. France and Britain mobilize their border and wait for the Germans to attack, in which they never did. Later in May of 1940, Germany conquers the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and reaches the French Coast where they trap Britain and France on the coast of Dunkirk. The British Navy and civilians take ships to rescue soldiers. By June, France surrendered to Germany, Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain, says that they will not surrender no matter what. Germany plans to attack Britain with air attacks, while Britain uses air force radar and code breaking to resist them, which causes the Battle of Britain. It was the first major military campaign fought entirely by air forces. In September of 1940, Mussolini decided to attack the British colonies in southern Africa, which cuts off vital resources being brought to Britain. Hitler then plans to take the Soviet Union, disregarding their pledge to not attack each other. The German army came unprepared because if anything you should learn in history is to never attack Russia in winter. The soviet troops used the “scorched earth” tactic, previously used by Russian army during the failed Napoleonic Invasion of Russia, which involved the same problem of trying to fight Russia in winter. In 1935 the Nuremberg Laws take away rights of the German Jews. Hitler favors the idea of emigration for the Jews, but other countries limit the refugees and Hitler owned most of the surrounding countries making it difficult for Jews to leave. Hitler decided that they would be forced to live in separate areas just for Jewish people known as Ghettos. Hitler got the people to follow along because he was a very convincing person with persuading speeches and labeling people which makes it easier to dehumanize them. He hopes that the Ghettos will make the Jews die of disease or starvation. After this plan did not work, Hitler turned to genocide. Genocide is the systematic killing of a race or ethnicity of people. Many were killed before being sent to concentration camps or slave labor prisons. If they made it to the camps they were sent there for two things, death, or experimentation. By 1942, the weak are killed off. This included women, children, the old, and the sick. The Nazis killed approximately six million Jews, leaving less than four million
