Although it violates God's law and Man's law could it still be seen as a justifiable choice. A man named George was given this hard decision. George was a short man who traveled with an abnormally large man with the heart of a child who went by Lennie.
George makes the correct decision in shooting Lennie because Lennie is happy when he dies instead of being afraid and in pain as he would be if he had died another way. George has to kill or turn in Lennie because Lennie committed murder and George has the responsibility to deal with him. George deserves freedom from Lennie’s mistakes and by killing Lennie, he receives that liberty. Lennie is not a bad person. He has a good heart and does not mean to do the bad things he does.
In the book “Mice and Men” the two main characters George and Lennie were faced with many challenges and decisions. The one decisions everyone is talking about it when George Choose to Shoot Lennie. Some think this was a wrong decision and some think it was the right decision. I personally think that is wasn't a smart decision for George to shoot Lennie. One reason I believe that it was a bad reason for George to kill Lennie is that they had the chance for the other men such as Slim to just turn him into the law.
A reason why george should be justified is because he says if “i was alone i could live so easy” which you never say to a guy like lennie. In the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck, I believe that George did make the right decision to shoot Lennie, because of the relationship that they had. Previously learning from the experience Candy had when he let someone else shoot his dog, George knew that shooting Lennie was his job to do. In chapter three Candy says "I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn 't ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog." , (John Steinbeck, 1973, p.58), this really impacted Georges decision on giving someone else the ability to shoot him.
However, George could have stood up for Lennie instead of killing him. There is other options other than immediately killing. Lennie was not very smart and George knew that, George was not thinking of Lennie he was thinking of himself. In the passage, Of Mice and Men, George says “He’s dumb as hell, but he ain’t crazy.” This shows that George knows that he is not stupid.
In this story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, I do believe that George was right to kill Lennie. Some people will say that it was wrong for George to kill Lennie But to be honest with you—there was no escape, and I say this because a little bit after George hears “a man’s voice call up from the river, and another man answer”(100). So knowing that George heard voices from up the river probably means that Curley and his men where near by. I also strongly believe that if George didn’t kill Lennie, the others would’ve done much worse things to him. I like to think of it as a question.

While people think George made the wrong decision in the end. I personally think George made the right decision because he saved Lennie from knowing what was going to happen, George made it so Lennie went happy and quick without any suffering. I’m going to be talking about my reasoning on why I think he made the right decision for example George didn’t want Lennie to cause any more harm, the Lynch mob would’ve done worse to Lennie like torcher him, and George had no life his life was revolved around Lennie. My first reason is that George didn’t want Lennie to cause any more harm.
George did the right thing shooting Lennie in the head. He did the right thing because If he hadn’t someone else would’ve and it would have been more cruel. If he hadn’t done it Lennie would continue to get in trouble. Lennie also held George back so now he can move forward without being held back because of Lennie.
Some people might think in the opposite side that George should not killed Lennie because Lennie did not mean to anything. He has done it without knowing how strong of himself. Lennie made many troubles this might be because of his disability, but this is the reason that he deserves to live. He has done many thing that make George get into trouble and It is better if Lennie has to die because of George shoot him not the other. "All the time he coulda had such a good time if it was not for you” (Steinbeck).
Lennie with his simple mind, always gets into trouble. This time, Lennie gets himself in a bind once again, that George can’t save him from. George decision to kill Lennie in the story, was due to his responsibility, sympathy, and love for Lennie. George’s decision to kill Lennie was out of sympathy for him.
George killing Lennie is justified. Lennie was either gonna get killed by the other men or George. The other men were only doing it because they hated Lennie, George would have done it for the sake of Lennie’s safety and mental state. George would have felt guilty if he did not handle it himself. One reason George was justified in killing Lennie was that George had realized Lennie would never get better and their dream would never come true.
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novel was justified. George and Lennie were best friends, and have been since they were little.
