Furthermore, as a kid there are boundless activeness and things to do as time flies. However, today young kids have unlimited access to internet, television, apps and games. Children don’t spend much time playing games and constructing with blocks or going outside to play to create new games. In the article of “Marketing to Children Drowns out Innovation” by Susan Linn, the director of the Campaign for a Commercial-free childhood, suggests that children need toys that come without instructions as an act of causes kids to form their own ideas to promote originality in kids at an early age. She states, “Children also play less creatively with kits - construction sets or packed art projects designed to achieve one specific end result.”
For this extended assignment I am going to focus on play and the importance of play is for children and young people. Creativity is an important skill that everyone should use continuously. In the short story, The Cat in the Hat, it shows two kids who are home alone and don't have the creativity to think of something to do, until the Cat in the Hat shows up and presents his creative thoughts on having fun. It is important that children are able to receive holistic care while in a play environment, both inside and outside. I agree that play-based learning offers diverse opportunities for children to explore, discover and create, they can also discover new things and communicate with peer during free-play time. Frobel said that “Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood, for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child 's soul” (Froebel, 1887). He believed in the importance of play in a child’s learning as creative activity. The kids of this generation no longer play like their parents or grandparents did, instead of playing with yo-yo's, they play with smart phones, and instead of playing with water guns they play call of duty on their Xbox. One of the new issues that this generation will have is that the children won't have to use their imagination anymore. The imagination was for the other generations the principal tool to play, the kid could become anything with the help of the imagination, for example; becoming a pirate, cop, detective, etc. The reason why the new generation of children does not have enough imagination is because kids are not being encouraged to imagine, the kids no longer need to find ways to have fun because they have more options to play,

The call had been engineered from a remote computer by a squad member with prodigious hacking skills.” Here it shows that children in simulated violent games can use increased out of the box skills to solve problems. This can increase a child’s amount of creativity a lot which is definitely a good thing for anyone to have.
Despite it being easy to list down various play activities, it is difficult to come up with a set definition for it although it is widely accepted that play should very much be free, unstructured and mostly child-initiated.
