In America today, countless people make mistakes that require judicial action. Many people make small ones, but a surprising number of people have made large, or life changing mistakes that has required trial and harsh punishment. This more often than one would think, leads to jail time, also known as imprisonment. Mistakes are part of life, men and woman make them, however, youth make more. Despite this, and the fact that children are still learning, they are not safe from the firm grip of the law, or the cruel concept of being tried as an adult. Child imprisonment, especially for life, is unethical, ineffective, illogical, and ruins a child's future. In addition to this, as high as seventy three percent of imprisonment for a child's life is from non-violent crimes (Statistic Brain). It is not just to ruin a child's life because of a mistake they have made. They are still learning and deserve to become what they strive to be, especially if the reason their life has virtually ended is from something non-violent. Gary Scott, a former child prisoner, argues that despite what horrendous crime a child has committed they deserve another chance. This is because if the child has committed a crime at a young age, his or her circumstances must not be satisfactory.
