GETTING DRAFTED When these athletes’ dreams come true, being drafted by an NFL organization, this is where their journey starts! The athlete is ecstatic, they’ve been waiting for this their entire life, every football fan in the nation now knows who they are, and this is their moment. The player now gets a phone call from the organization that drafted him. He then talks to the head coach, general manager and other staff. They book a meeting to get to know more about the player and prepare him for camp. A good relationship with the head office would be a good way to start off their rookie year. After the first pick the critics have, they’re first shot at fresh meat. A crazy amount of drama is included in the draft. Whether a player is drafted high or low they will be critiqued for the rest of their career. They have meetings right off the bat and have to talk over contracts and endorsements for the rest of the season. Usually players with high expectations get endorsements with well-known companies such as Nike, Under Armour, and Adidas. There is a good deal of money they acquire when signing these contracts. Rookies need to spend their money wisely, and that doesn’t mean buying the new million-dollar car that all the vets have. Athletes that have parents that played in the pros can acquire some knowledge from them about saving money. If a player spends all of his salary while playing in the NFL there is a good chance they will go broke after football. Many athletes’ parents express to them that they need to save their money, but that doesn’t always work out. In today’s society, many are judged by what they own, not by what they want, and that can make it difficult for these people to listen to their peers telling them to do all of this
