Since the early 1990s, video games containing violent or explicit content and whether minors, individuals under the age of 18, should be allowed to rent or purchase such games without the consent of a parent or guardian have been controversial topics; many argue that minors should not be allowed to purchase/rent such games without parental consent because of the effects brought on by playing them, that is, they desensitize the player making them prone to aggressive or violent behavior, while others argue that violent/explicit video games are just a harmless pastime and that there is no need to restrict minors from buying or renting them without parental consent. My standing on this matter is that there should be a restriction on the sale or rental of video games whose content is intended to be viewed by mature or adult audiences to minors without the consent of a parent or guardian, as individuals who are under the age of 18 do not legally posses the autonomy or the right to make decisions for themselves, as that is the responsibility of their adult caretakers (parents, guardians, social workers, ect.), therefore, the parents or guardians …show more content…
