The alleged purpose of the Louisiana literacy tests were to “verify that the voter had at least a 5th grade education”, but at the end of the day, that was the least of the Registrar of Voters’ concerns. This is evident due to the fact that many blacks were issued the test no matter how much education they had, and because many whites were excused from taking the test no matter how little of an education they possessed. Furthermore, the people grading these tests were all racist whites so no matter how well the blacks may have done on the test, the end result would ultimately be a fail. The literacy tests were simply a fraudulent attempt to suppress the black vote in Louisiana. Whites saw the ability of Blacks being able to vote as a threat
Humans wrote myths long ago, yet have a lot of relatable truths and morals. For example, in the myth of “Prometheus,” his kindness of giving gifts to humans out of his pity for not being able to survive yet ends him up in severe punishment. Similarly, in The Lightning Thief, Thalia’s bravery and compassion end up with her having to be sacrificed. In both texts, Prometheus and Thalia show how good deeds may end in misfortune. 1
Mythologies, although depicted in different ways, are a part of every culture. Every mythology has stories of their heroes and how they came to be. Usually heroes come into this world unnaturally and strangely. Heroes have their tales of incredible quests they are sent on, like fighting horrific monsters and solving complex puzzles. Eventually heroes die, whether out of heroism or stupidity.
The Multiple Layers of Myths In ancient times, civilization would rely on myths passed down from generation to generation for entertainment, which eventually affects their everyday lives in one way or another. The Odyssey, translated by Robert Fitzgerald from Homer, is an epic poem illustrating the journey Odysseus took on his way home. On the other hand, Mythology, a book written by Edith Hamilton, describes the different perspectives Romans and Greeks have of mythological creatures, gods, and heroes. Common themes shared between both are: Actions are weighted by benefits of consequences, Fate is already written in one’s actions, and Betrayal can be the key to one’s downfall.
This structure gives ease to understanding the meaning of things, and reinforce a world order that is designed after what the gods have done. This is like that natural law of philosophers that come later and provides rationale for ancient western
As Armstrong explains, “mythology was therefore designed to help us to cope with the problematic human predicament. It helped people to find their place in the world and their true orientation” (6). The idea of myths was created to teach humans proper behavior that fit with their ideal society, as well as help people live in peace with one another. They also taught valuable lessons on how not to live since people didn 't know where they come from and where they belong. We invented stories by using gods, humans and magical creatures to explain something that happens in nature.
Mythology is the collection of myths that denotes commonly cultural and religious beliefs of ancient human beings. The elements of it were usually the involvement of god, goddess and heroes. Through the ages, grandiose tales of monsters and heroes have been told and retold either by oral tradition or written for future generations to learn from those who have come before them. To the Greek culture, these stories represent what it means to be a man, a patriarch, and the hero that can accomplish anything with a little help from the gods. In both, the Odyssey and Medea, the heroes have accomplished extraordinary feats that sets them on a path to a better future, not just for them, but for their children as well. In Homer’s Odyssey, Odysseus has taken a long journey to come home to his Greek wife, in contrast, in Euripides’ Medea, Jason takes a journey with his Colchian wife to settle in a new home in Greece. In the end, Odysseus is able to accomplish great feats of bravery and enjoy the remainder of his life, but Jason fails at his attempt to forge a life beyond his great feats of bravery.

Then while looking in the psychology aspect one can use the stories that are told in the myths (“Mythology”). In psychology they use mythological stories to give people hope. Most of all the stories within mythology has some some great tragedy, but hearing those struggles could help people to carry on just because those great heroes had the strength to carry on, and like the struggling person the heroes are human. The allusions one sees everyday can be used later in life due to the fact that the higher the education the more it is obvious mythology takes place in the studies

This is another well-known text that talks about the interactions between nature and man, and how one affects the other in different kinds of ways. Both of these myths raise the question ‘Do these myths teach more about mankind, or ourselves? Or, do they teach us more about nature, and the essences of nature as a whole collective unit?” It is evident in these cases provided that myths tend to teach people more about mankind than they teach about nature. In the Iliad, this story focuses on the heroic Greek warrior, Achilles.
Greek mythology has been one of the most complicated subjects in the field of religion and mythology. This is due to the complex relations and interactions which exists in the history of Greek gods and the humans who lived in ancient Greece. Different versions of the existence and the establishment of the superior beings were developed, which at times created suspense for readers through their interactions. The various tales which exist explain the various connections between different gods, how they relate to one another, the ideological order in which they came into existence as well as the interactions they had with humans. These tales form the basis of various religious beliefs and practices since it is perceived that it is through the interactions of the gods that humans came into existence, a situation which created the dependent relationship between mortals and gods.
Greek Mythology and its Influences on Modern Society By Jenna Marie A. Macalawa, Lyceum of the Philippines University – Cavite Campus 2014 Myths are not dissimilar to fairy tales, legends, and sagas, but its period is distinctly different from usual existential time. It is considered as an expression of childhood experiences, and it also explains the origin and meaning of the world. According to Long (1994), “The term mythology may describe a certain body of myths, for example, Greek, African, or Scandinavian, or it may refer to the study of myths” (p.694). These collections of narratives are superior when it comes to influencing different areas of knowledge. There are numerous types of mythology, but Ancient Greece is the one that has given an immense influence on modern society.
