People conform because they believe the group is competent and has the correct information, (Conformity, Compliance, and Obedience, n.d.). As human beings we are all social creatures who crave social acceptance, and wired to fit in, we respect people so that they can also respects us as different individuals. Society has set rules that need to be followed if we have to be accepted and fit in. I feel society has had influence on my behaviour towards fellow human beings and I feel pressurized to accept certain norms that I would otherwise question and refuse to abide by if it was entirely up to me to determine that. Society expects me to be an upright person who cannot do certain things in public, for example I cannot go to work dressed in my pyjamas or attend church in my sweatpants. Society has put restrictions in place on what kind of a job I should do as a woman. Society puts pressure on women to look a certain way in order to be considered beautiful. I feel pressurised not to act a certain way when I am upset. Society, religion and culture expect me to turn and walk away or give the other cheek when all I want to do is scream my lungs out in public. I should not show my emotions in a dramatic way. This involved a non-Christian a couple that converted to Christian when the visited the church. They were happy to receive Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. After a couple months they stopped coming to church because they felt like they could not fit in and abide by everything that was expected of them. They wanted to continue engaging in sinful habits they were indulging in before the conversion and did not want to read the word of God so they that can grow spiritually.
