A mask is a covering for all or part of the face, worn as a disguise, or to amuse or terrify other people. Some people use a different persona as a mask to hide their identity. It is more of a drawback for someone to wear this mask because masks are not permanent. Masks can hide a person’s true feelings only for as long as you wear it. A person is lying when they hide their true selves, so it would be difficult to keep themselves covered. In order to hide their identity, people will mask themselves so they will not be caught in a lie. In the short story, Charles, by Shirley Jackson, a boy named Laurie poses as a boy named Charles to hide his bad behavior at school. In the podcast, “The Teacher who couldn’t Read”, a man named John Corcoran is not able to read. He lied his way through all of his school years and even when he started working. He was able to get people to do all of his schoolwork so he could graduate high school. John Corcoran was a very talented basketball player so he received a scholarship to college. Corcoran was able to keep his grades up by making friends to do his work. He got a job as a teacher and was able to teach his students while he hid not being able to read. However, this is incorrect. It is still more a drawback to mask someone’s identity. Even though he got through his school years, he struggled a lot and had to break many rules to get through college. John never told anyone about his problem until he got married, so he did not receive any help. It is a clear struggle for John Corcoran to mask his issue.
In conclusion, when someone wears a mask, it will be uncovered. Wearing a mask is truly a burden to have on one’s life. One way or another, the mask a person wears will be discovered quickly and can damage the relationships around you. It is important to know that wearing this mask will get you only so far in life before the mask wears out and starts to fade
