Vaccines Luc Montagnier once said “It [is] clear that prevention will never be sufficient. That 's why we need a vaccine that will be safe.” Throughout history, scientists and health professionals have looked for ways to effectively combat a disease before it could infect an individual. Developing better health literacy and better overall cleanliness helped with sicknesses like the common cold. Things like sewers and plumbing helped prevent most major diseases. Even though better sanitation decreases the frequency of contracting diseases, there is only one way to almost be completely immune to an illness. Vaccines are practically a sure cure and relatively safe way to prevent life threatening diseases. Encyclopaedia Britannica defines vaccines …show more content…

Most of these falsehoods originate from either obsolete evidence or fabricated lies. Some people believe vaccines are not safe (Horton, 2010). The CDC requires that all vaccines or any medication have thorough and rigorous testing, that is held to the highest standards. Products that are unsafe would not be available to the general public. People also claim that vaccines cause Autism (Horton, 2010). The National Alliance for Autism funded a research study to see if the MMR vaccine was linked to Autism and no relationship was found (Autism and Vaccines, 2004) This claim has been disproven by multiple tests and studies, however people still believe. Despite having no correlation between the two, fear as taken control of the minds of individuals. Instead of thinking clearly and rationally, people are using this an excuse to distort reality and cause false panic in the minds of parents. This in turn puts their children at risk and the lives of others also. “Too many vaccines can overwhelm the immune system” (Horton, 2010). As stated earlier, the CDC’s requirements would not allow vaccines to be used if that was a possibility. The amount of tests required virtually eliminates any possibilities that this could happen “A ‘holistic’ lifestyle will bolster our immune systems and protect us from disease” (Horton, 2010). Although this can help it is not a fool proof solution. Vaccines are the most reliable option when it comes to improving an individual’s immune system. Horton states that another common myth is that parents don’t have to vaccinate their children with same vaccinations they received. Immunity from vaccines do not pass from generation to generation; only genetic immunities have that ability. When countries stop or reduce the amount of vaccinations for a certain disease, there is always a dramatic increase of cases
