Frankenstein speaks of a much simpler life, one endowed in blissful ignorance: “how dangerous is the acquirement of knowledge and how much happier that man is who believes his native town to be the world, than he who aspires to become greater than his nature will allow” (Shelley 31). A theory crafted by John Stuart Mill claims that “[i]t is better to be a human being dissatisfied than a pig satisfied; better to be Socrates dissatisfied than a fool satisfied” (Troia). Basically, the village idiot is the happiest man in town whilst Einstein, despite his fame and glory, is miserable.
Student-Athletes Should be Paid Student-athletes are the main source of income for their respective colleges. They are also instrumental in the recruiting aspect of colleges. In order to maintain their good reputation and keep being attractive to incoming students, colleges depend on their athletes to be the “cream of the crop” at their level of competition. Then why are college students not being paid for the services they provide. Many will say that student-athletes are not to be paid as they are receiving a free education through scholarships.
Did you know that paying students for having good grades resulted in a decrease in dropout rates, gangs, alcohol, and drug use? Students should get paid for having excellent grades. The reason why this is important is because it could lead to a brighter future for society. Three reasons why students should get paid for having awesome grades is because cash for good grades provide students with career-like rewards, it decreases dropout rates, and with the right incentive,could lead to success. All of those three reasons could and will result in success.
Another reason of why paying your children is wrong that you are giving your children the wrong motivation to do good in school. In the article “Should you bribe your kids to get good grades?” in paragraph ten Michele Borba goes to say “That love of learning goes out,and instead what the child loves is cash and not the subject of the learning”. The article has also said that praise is much better than giving them the wrong motivation to do good in school. Some of my classmates have been paid for grades and said that in school all they could do was think about getting say possible twenty dollars for getting good grades.
There has been no studies on paying for good grades can badly affect us. That 's why parents should pay us for good grades and like I said before if we get paid we will get better grades and have a better attitude towards school and think of it as an actual job. Many parents have always used rewards such as money as a way to incentivize their children to do well in school, but recently some schools have been making programs that pay students standard. Some people think that using cash as motivation for schooling is wrong and would only create more problems; however studies have shown that this is not the case for a vast majority of the situations tested. Students should earn money for exceptional grades because it would improve overall student work ethic/morale, decrease the amount of missing/late assignments, and increase the number of students who do well on standardized tests. Students should be paid for their hard work because it would make the majority of them both happier and more eager to do their assignments.
Schools are just like jobs. The boss expects the workers to stay on task and do their work well. Teachers want students to work hard and also do their work with effort. If schools really want students to succeed, shouldn’t they be paid? Paying students motivate them to work hard to learn the criteria.
First of all, students should not be paid for good grades due to not needed pressure. The NEA claims : many teachers say, “Paying students for good grades leads to practical problems in their classrooms, including pressure to inflate grades and conflict with students and parents.” This means students are more likely to be in bad moods and have bad relationships with parents and classmates. If some kids get money and the rest don’t, arguments will break out. In a classroom, students are supposed to be respectful to each other in order to have and efficient working environment.
Learning is the student job, not the parent to bride their children to do well. Paying student for good grades can give pressure to inflate their grades, external motivators that may be affective and well intended, and kids should be satisfied with their own accomplishment to success. In a survey of 24,000 students at 70 high schools, Donald McCabe (Rutgers University) found that 64 percent of students admitted to cheating on a test, 58 percent for plagiarism, and 95 percent for some other form of cheating. Many people grow to be intelligent by studying and learning so much in school. But even at a young age, Albert was an incredibly intellectual person in a logical sense. He may not have been able to walk until three years old, but in school, he was incredibly accelerated. “By the time he was 13, Albert was reading and understanding scientific material that many adults would have found impossible to follow” (Ireland 7). This shows that Albert Einstein is intelligent because it shows how gifted he was above all people.
