As society continues to evolve and change, education must keep up with the times in order to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. One subject that I think should be added to the high school curriculum is mental health and wellness. Mental health is an important aspect of overall health and well-being that often gets overlooked in traditional education. By adding a mental health and wellness class to the high school curriculum, students would be equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to maintain their mental health and well-being and support their peers in doing the same.

By adding a mental health and wellness class to the high school curriculum, students would be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to manage their mental health and well-being as their lives constantly develop. As a highschooler, I would propose the development of mental health courses in standard curriculum by emphasizing the importance of mental health and well-being, and how it affects every aspect of life, including academic performance, relationships, and overall health. Likewise, I would explain how a mental health class could help students understand and manage their own mental health circumstances in healthy manners. Provided the overwhelmingly high amount of statistics on the lack of mental health awareness, the increasing need for mental health education could not be more clearly needed. With the benefits of mental health education, including reduced rates of mental health problems and improved academic performance, students could learn to cope with and overcome some aspects of mental health that have been hindering them. Common misconceptions such as the stigma that people with mental health issues are abnormal or mentally insane pollute the opportunities for struggling citizens to achieve help.
