The Author Soccio unravels a fascinating theory of Rene Descartes, his theories covered in Maybe It’s All a Dream reflecting on senses. (Soccio, Pg. 161) This is most relevant in terms of how a lot of everyday things seem familiar because the feelings and connections, more referenced as senses, of dreams and reality. Are these senses familiar because it has been dreamt it or did it really happen in a reality?
So maybe it was a dream that gave a familiar feeling that the recent winning of a lottery was already lived by the time it happened. Most can remember one dream or two in life or have woken up to a dream being so realistic it shed tears, fear, or pure bliss. Psychologically a dream could have the same impacts just as the true reality. In theory, it could also be said that it actually did happen in that moment. As the passage in the text by Rene Descartes describes just this. (Soccio, Pg.161, Par.3) Some do have the power to lucid dream, having full control over the dream itself. Having the power to internally face or explore fears, happiness, or secret pleasures. As the text talks about hallucinations indeed elaborating on a mental thought. (Soccio, Pg. 161, Par.4) Because the subconscious is the true inner soul of secrets, dreams create adventures a person will never get to experience in life. As Soccio describes things as being deceptive by our senses, however, senses could also be triggered off of things we don’t remember like something in a dream. So the example given of seeing a figure and it not being what’s thought, yet it could be a familiar thing viewed correctly, just not what could remember by the awakened senses. (Soccio, Pg. 161,
