This book had a strong message at the end of the book. I personally can not relate to this book but I really enjoyed reading it. Stargirl was home schooled and started real school in the 10th grade. Stargirl was a new student in school, and she was a very different from everyone else.
In The Life You Save May Be Your Own by Flannery O’Connor, Lucynell Crater[ mother the Lucynell Crater]’s character is contradicting because she is both caring and hypocritical demonstrating that there is a small bit of good in the most manipulating and deceiving people. In the beginning of The Life You Save May Be Your Own when Mr. Shiftlet is with Mrs. Crater and her daughter on page 3 she begins to advertise her own daughter
In Lucy Grealy’s Autobiography of a Face, there are many literary symbols that help to convey the author’s overall theme of confidence and physical beauty in today’s society. The story is about a young woman who undergoes multiple surgeries in order to become healthy again. In the meantime, the chemotherapy and radiation cause her hair to fall out and surgeries have some of her jaw removed. Unfortunately, this takes a lot more than just physical appearance away from Lucy. This is a key component to one of the major signs in the novel.
It follows a brave girl who survives in the most unsurvivable situations, and it’s very inspiring. One of the reasons I love this book is that it’s set in the middle of World War 2. My favorite genre of books is historical fiction, so this book was a good fit for me. It was also very interesting because in most WW2 fiction I’ve read, it takes the perspective of the Jewish people against Hitler, but this takes the perspective of the Lithuanian people against the Soviets. It showed me a different side of the story in WW2 that I didn’t know existed before I read Ashes In The Snow.
Melinda didn’t speak to anyone before she kind of remembers what had happened to her in the summer. This book is great. You can imagine what goes on in the book. For example “I plunge my hand into the bottom of the globe and fish out my paper.
This is such a fantastic book for both girls and boys. It is an empowering book for young girls which depicts a female character excelling in engineering. It also has a positive message for both genders that teaches the only failure is if you give up. Rosie becomes disheartened when her helicopter crashes and wants to give up, but learns that even though her invention crashed, it DID fly and so it was a success! This would be a good book to tie into history by discussing the Rosie the Riveters in WW
I was also connected to the text more listening to her and how she tries to match her family experience to the family in the book. I noticed that she was very passionate about Japanese Internment camps, this made me want to strive to be passionate about the book as much as
It is the rare tree that grows in the poorest of the neighborhoods and survives despite the lack of love it receives. It is the small, run-down library with the librarian who never notices the children who come in everyday. It is the horse that children love to steal a glance at because of its shining brown mane and tail. It is the weekly trip to the junkie where all the kids collect rags, paper, metal, and other junk they find in their apartment or street. It is these small collection of memories in Brooklyn where children grow up despite the hardships they face- particularly for a young girl named Francie Nolan.
The book has many characters with very different personalities. The book has unexpected twists and turns throughout it. The novel involves kidnappers, a dragon and (of course) the 5 children from Miami that know nothing about what they’re getting into. This book started out as, a fairly normal story.
This novel is good for teenagers, because it’s interesting and has an unexpecting plot. The novel uses humor and sarcasm so it won’t get boring when reading. The bad thing about the novel is that it can be a little traumatizing for someone that went through what Melinda went through. Hence the strength of the novel is that it's entertaining
The book kept me guessing until the very end of the story. The main characters are easy to relate to, and are very likeable. Lauren Oliver’s style in the book is casual, yet it keeps the reader greatly intrigued. Oliver is able to paint a very vivid picture of each event in the story, that makes the reader feel as if they are right there, participating in the challenges. The theme of desire reoccurs in the story, as the characters all desire something throughout the game.
The first novel of the The Mother-Daughter Book Club series introduces us to a motley crew of four strong willed girls and their mothers who are part of a monthly book club. The mothers come together to form a book club though the girls are not so excited about the idea. Jess is missing her mother so much to care about reading a book, Emma has read practically every book you can think of, Cassidy prefers hockey practice and Megan is more interested in shopping. However, the monthly book club ritual that begins with the reading of Little Women soon becomes a platform where the four girls help each other deal with the challenges of middle school. Taking lessons from Jo March, they deal with a range of issues from first dance fashion fiascos, bullying, secret journals, secret crushes and familial
It 's a jaw-dropping book that will leave you wanting more as the author Laurie writes in a crisp and clear way describing the young girl Melinda’s horrific story and how it unfolds. The author 's tone gives off the vibe of a young frighted girl which I find really enhances this sad, but exhilarating story. This story taught me to always speak up for myself and to never let anyone take advantage of me. I would recommend this novel because it is extremely detailed, painting vivid pictures in your mind that really help to magnify and
This book is about how four siblings, Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, were sent off to England because of air raids that were happening in London. The house that they were staying at was owned by an old professor who kept to himself. While staying in the house, the siblings would explore everywhere and eventually she came upon a room with an old wardrobe in it. She went inside the wardrobe and it led to a different world called Narnia, where animals talked and there were make believe creatures like fauns and giants. However, Edmund also went into the wardrobe.
I really enjoyed reading this book for several reasons. The book portrays overcoming fear, it has adventure, and shows you how to juggle such a busy life. Little miss Scottie-Ann has always been the back seat rider in her parent’s life. Scottie Ann has never been in the spotlight unlike her older more mature sister Dane.
